The Candidate |
Experienced Leader
Dear Friends and Lakewood Community Members:
For nearly the past four years I have had the privilege of serving on the Lakewood Board of Education, and am honored to be the current Board President. I am pleased to announce that I will seek another term and will be on the ballot this November. I am asking for your support!
Throughout my term I have been visible and accessible to the community and brought to the Board the perspective of an elementary and middle school parent with children who have a wide range of interests.
As a career public sector administrator and now experienced board member, I have an understanding of the role of the board and its members.
The Lakewood City Schools have highly effective leaders in our superintendent and treasurer. This does not come by chance. It is the role of the board to attract and retain strong leaders and to create the environment for them to succeed. The Lakewood Board of Education has done that, and if re-elected I will continue that work with my colleagues...advocating for public education, maintaining a stable environment with highly effective leaders, and ensuring that the public education system meets the needs of the community.
Lakewood residents have been very supportive of the school district. The community clearly values quality public education.
Confidence of the public is earned through sound fiscal management and effective communication. Lakewood residents see responsible leadership from our treasurer/CFO and staff. It is important to effectively utilize public resources, to clearly show how they are used, and to ensure community input. Our team has done this and will continue to do so. An example of this is the current work of the Facility Study Task Force.
The district’s educators and support staff are second to none, and the variety of programs and opportunities that are available, as well as the welcoming environment that has been created, allow everyone to find their path. This is as important today as ever before. If re-elected I will continue to support expansion of programming and maintenance of our safe and welcoming spaces, under the guidance of our Vision of a Lakewood Graduate and Vision of a Lakewood Educator.
Lakewood is unique in that our recreation services are a function of the school district. Over the past several years the district has taken a close look at the recreation department and has made changes to the organizational structure. The creation of the Director of District Activities and Events position has allowed for alignment of the recreation and athletic departments, enhanced collaboration between the Lakewood City Schools and the City of Lakewood, and will continue to put emphasis on providing quality recreation services to our community, while aligning with middle school and high school sports. I will continue to bring my experience as a public sector parks & recreation professional to the table if re-elected. I truly believe that strong recreation services and programs help attract and retain residents to our community and students in our district. Community recreation is also not just for students...it is an opportunity to engage all members of the community and to maintain their support.
